Iran’s Supreme Leader Calls for Action in Gaza Strip

▲ Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei Photo: Yonhap News Iranian state broadcaster reported that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said, “We must respond to what is happening in the Gaza Strip.”

According to a state-run TV broadcast on the 17th (local time), Supreme Leader Khamenei said this to Israel, saying, “They must be judged for their crimes against the Palestinian people.”

He continued, “If the Zionist regime (Israel) continues its crimes against Palestine, no one will be able to stand against Islamists and resistance forces,” and added, “The bombing of Gaza must stop immediately.”

There is an interpretation that this remark may indicate that Iran may directly intervene in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Iranian rulers have supported Palestine since the 1979 Islamic Revolution and have not hidden their armed support for Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that controls the Gaza Strip.

There are concerns that if Iran officially intervenes in this situation, the conflict could spread throughout the Middle East.
