“We have no decision to make a nuclear bomb, but if Iran is threatened, there is no choice but to change our military doctrine,” the adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, Kamal Kharrazi, said in a statement, as reported report Iran Student News Network and reported ReutersThursday (9/5/2024).
In his statement, Kharrazi said that Tehran had indicated that it had the capability to produce such a weapon.
“If the Zionist regime attacks our nuclear facilities, our deterrence will change,” he said.
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is known to have banned the development of nuclear weapons in a fatwa issued in the early 2000s.
Khamenei reaffirmed his stance in a similar statement in 2019.
“Making and gathering nuclear bombs is wrong and using them is haram… Even if we have nuclear technology, it is impossible to avoid Iran,” Khamenei said at the time.
