ISLAMABAD – The Pakistani government condemned Iran’s alleged missile attack in Balochistan province on Tuesday (16/1/2024) which it claimed caused civilian casualties.

Islamabad said it would lodge a protest with Tehran over the “unilateral action” and violation of its sovereignty.

Several Iranian news portals reported late Tuesday that missiles and drones were launched at the headquarters of Jaish al-Adl, the group Tehran blames for an attack that killed a dozen Iranian police in December.

However, there has been no official statement from Iran regarding the operation.

“Pakistan strongly condemns the unprovoked violation of its airspace by Iran and the attack inside Pakistani territory which resulted in the death of two innocent children and injury to three girls,” said Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.

The Foreign Ministry added, “Pakistan’s violation of sovereignty is completely unacceptable and could have serious consequences.”

“Terrorism is a threat to all countries in the region and requires coordinated action rather than unilateral actions that are not in line with good neighborly relations and can seriously damage bilateral trust,” stressed the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Iran’s Chargé d’Affaires has been summoned to receive a letter of protest regarding the “blatant violation” of Pakistan’s sovereignty, while a corresponding demarcation order has also been sent to Tehran, according to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.
