Iranian trap to find spies through “fake company”

The group appeared in at least 2017, they were active until recently, and at various times the Iranians had their work run by Israelis.

Analysts say the purpose of the look is to identify individuals in the Middle East who are willing to sell secrets to Israel and other Western governments.

The group targeted members of the military and intelligence services, linked to Iran’s allies in the region.

The Mandiant report said, “The data collected through this campaign could help Iran’s intelligence services identify individuals who are willing to cooperate with countries hostile to Iran. The group is conducting a sort of “loyalty test” to see if prominent officials in Iran, Syria and Lebanon are willing to cooperate with Tehran’s enemies.

The researchers said the hackers are somehow connected to a group known as “APT42” or “Charming Kitten,” which is widely attributed to an intelligence department linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

The group was recently accused of hacking the US presidential campaign of Republican candidate Donald Trump.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said it is investigating the group’s ongoing efforts to interfere with the US elections scheduled for next November.
