Security forces in Iran arrested eleven suspects on Thursday on suspicion of involvement in Wednesday’s bombings. The Iranian security service announced this on Friday. The death toll from the two attacks has risen to 89.

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the two bombings in the city of Kerman. The terrorist organization claims that the explosions are the work of two suicide bombers, who are brothers. The attacks were the deadliest in Iran since 1979.

Iranian intelligence said that two people were arrested on Thursday on suspicion of supporting the two suicide bombers. Nine other people are suspected of being involved in the attacks.

According to the intelligence service, agents have located the home of the suicide bombers. The eleven suspects were arrested there. Materials used to make bombs and bomb vests are also said to have been seized.

According to Iran, one of the suicide bombers is a person from Tajikistan. Authorities say the nationality of the other terrorist is not yet known.

Iranian authorities also announced on Friday that the death toll had risen by five victims. It is currently known that 89 people have died. About 280 people were injured in the attacks.

The bombs went off at a commemoration of top commander Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in an attack by the United States in 2020. That commemoration took place at Soleimani’s cemetery.
