The reports of the poisonings are being investigated. The chemical attacks took place in several cities. There is talk of ‘biological terrorism’.
An Iranian doctor, who is also a member of the parliament’s health committee, confirmed that the poisoning was intentional. It would be organophosphate. This is a substance that is normally used as a pesticide in agriculture.
Most students are treatable and out of danger, Iran’s Education Minister Younes Panahi reported. The students suffered from vomiting, diarrhea and severe sweating, among other things.
According to Panahi, after the poisonings, some people wanted all girls’ schools closed. The students are said to have taken part in the protests against wearing the compulsory hijab.
Because of the attacks, the girls are not returning to school for the time being. The investigation is still ongoing. Few students attended the school because of the protests that have been going on for months.
