TEHRAN, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi expressed the two countries’ willingness to improve bilateral relations, according to a statement issued by the Iranian Affairs Ministry on Sunday foreign.
The two senior diplomats met in New York on Saturday on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where they also discussed various regional issues of common concern.
Mr. Amir-Abdollahian took stock of his “positive” meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Amman last December, in which Mr. Safadi also participated. He further praised the quality of cooperation between the two countries in different fields, and expressed Iran’s willingness to improve bilateral relations and collaboration.
Mr. Amir-Abdollahian hoped that Tehran-Amman relations would continue to improve in accordance with the respective interests of the two nations, especially in view of the positive atmosphere currently reigning in the region and the tendency to improving relations between Iran and the Muslim Arab states.
For his part, the Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his country’s desire to maintain “cordial and fraternal” relations with Iran and to open a new chapter in the history of their bilateral relations.
“We face many common challenges in the region, and we must cooperate to overcome them,” he said, adding that efforts were still needed to enable bilateral relations to fully reflect the “historical and fraternal ties ” which exist between the two countries. END
