Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti arrested for ‘inciting’ riots in Iran

Madrid (EFE).- Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti, considered one of the best actresses in Iran, has been arrested on charges of inciting riots in her country, according to some local media reports.

According to “Hamshahri Online”, the artist was arrested “because of her actions in posting false and distorted content, inciting riots and supporting anti-Iranian movements”.

Tarane Alidoosti (Tehran, 1984), has won several awards throughout her career and was the protagonist of the film “The Salesman” (“Forushandeh” in Persian), directed in 2016 by her compatriot Asghar Farhadi and which in 2017 won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

The arrest of the actress is reportedly linked to protests in Iran that began over the death of Mahsa Amini after she was arrested by the Morality Police for not wearing the Islamic headscarf properly in September, but protesters are now calling for an end to the Islamic Republic founded by the Ayatollah Ruholá Khomeini in 1979.

After nearly three months of demonstrations, with more than 400 deaths and thousands of arrests, the authorities have begun executing protesters to try to control the demonstrations led mainly by young people and women, who are demanding more freedom.
