Iran reported to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that it would raise its uranium enrichment concentration to 20%.
The IAEA issued a statement on the 1st, saying, “Under a law recently passed by Congress, Iran has reported that it will produce up to 20% of low-enriched uranium at the Pordo enrichment facility.”
The concentration of 20% is the level that Iran reached before the’Comprehensive Joint Action Plan (JCPOA)’, or Iran’s nuclear agreement, signed by Iran and six major countries in 2015.
In a statement, the IAEA said it did not say when Iran will begin enrichment activities.
Under the Iranian nuclear agreement, Iran cannot enrich uranium at the Pordo enrichment facility located underground in the central mountainous region.
However, Iran has already concentrated on the Pordo facility with a first-generation old centrifuge.
According to a report released by the IAEA in October last year, Iran’s uranium enrichment concentration was 4.5%, exceeding the nuclear agreement limit of 3.67%.
Meanwhile, Iranian Revolutionary Guard Commander Esmail Ghani warned that Iran is always ready to respond to the United States ahead of the first cycle of commander Kasem Soleimani Kuds, who died in a US drone attack in Iraq in January last year.
