– We are ready to discuss and resolve this issue in meetings with Kiev, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian colleague Dmytro Kuleba on Friday. This is what is stated in a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, reproduced by the Dpa news agency.
Iran has long been accused of providing, or wanting to provide Russia with, drones for use in the war in Ukraine, which it has denied. The Ukrainian military said on Friday it had shot down more than 300 Russian Shahed-136 kamikaze drones, produced by Iran.
In the telephone conversation with Kuleba, Amir-Abdollahian was clear that although Iran has good relations and long-term military cooperation with Russia, the country is opposed to the war in Ukraine.
At the same time, the Iranian authorities never criticized the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but rather described it as a justified countermeasure to NATO’s eastward expansion.
