Sanctions were eased as part of US President Joe Biden’s administration’s efforts to talk Iran back into the 2015 nuclear deal.
“The lifting of some sanctions can, in the truest sense, translate into the goodwill Americans are talking about, but it must be recognized that what is happening on paper is good but not enough,” Amir-Abdollahian told Iran’s state-run INSA news agency on Friday. Saturday (5/2/2022).

“Good intentions, in our point of view, mean that something real happens on the pitch,” said Amir-Abdollahian.

He explained that Tehran wanted “assurances in the political, legal and economic sectors” and that the US would not simply withdraw from the deal again.

The deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was signed by Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany and the European Union in 2015.
