A senior Iranian official indicated this Friday that Iran has warned the United States that it should not “be dragged into the trap” set by Israel for Washington by attacking the Iranian consulate in Syria.
Mohammad Jamshidi, the Iranian president’s deputy chief of staff for political affairs, made the comments in a post on social media site
The message was sent after Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus, the capital of Syria, on Monday, in which seven Iranians were killed, including two experienced commanders of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.
Jamshidi said that in the message, Iran warned “the US leadership that it should not be dragged into the trap set by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the United States,” and recommended Washington “stay away” so that “it does not result injured”.
Jamshidi said that in response to the message, the United States asked Iran not to attack American facilities.
In a message posted Tuesday on his website reacting to the attack, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed that the country’s “brave men” will inflict punishment that will make Israel repent for its lethal “criminal” attack. ” against the Iranian consulate building.
