Iran vows to retaliate against its ships, US and Israel suspect

TEHERAN – Iran will no doubt respond to an attack on one of its ships in the Red Sea once it has identified the culprit. The warning was issued by an Iranian military spokesman.

“We will respond without a doubt to the attack on our ship Saviz in the Red Sea once we identify those involved,” Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi told Russian news agency Sputnik Arabic edition quoted by Al Arabiya, Friday (9/4/2021) .

“Iran will decide how to respond once its investigation into the incident is completed,” Shekarchi added.

Shekarchi revealed that Tehran was suspicious Israel and United States of America (US) was behind the attack.

“The US is undoubtedly involved in all efforts to damage and harm Iran,” added Shekarchi.

Earlier the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Iranian ship Saviz had been the target of an attack in the Red Sea.

“The explosion occurred on Tuesday morning near the coast of Djibouti and caused minor damage without casualties. The ship is a civilian ship stationed there to protect the area from pirates, “said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh.

Tasnim, a news agency affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, reported that the ship was attacked in the Red Sea by a limpet mine attached to the hull of the ship.
