Iran: Victims of Ukrainian airliner still lived 19 seconds | NOW

The occupants of the Ukraine International Airlines disaster, which was accidentally shot out of the sky by Iran in January, lived about nineteen seconds from the moment the first missile hit the plane. The head of the Iranian aviation authority announced this on Sunday.

The Ukrainian airline’s Boeing 737 was shot down by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRG) on January 8. That happened hours after a retaliation against US forces by Iran. The error was caused by incorrect adjustment of the radar system.

“Nineteen seconds after the first missile hit the plane, the voices of the pilots could still be heard. That shows that the passengers were still alive. After 25 seconds the second missile hit the plane,” Touraj Dehghani-Zanganeh told state media. .

All 176 passengers, including nine crew members, were killed in the action. Most of the deaths came from Iran (82) and Canada (63). There were also victims from Ukraine, Sweden, Afghanistan, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Black boxes are analyzed

The aircraft’s black boxes were rescued and were handed over to France on July 20, where the boxes will be read.

Iran is currently in talks with affected countries about the investigation into the disaster. The head of the Iranian aviation authority has asked them to stay away from political analysis of the information from the black boxes. Iran had already announced that “a terrible mistake” had been made.

Iran and the various countries are currently discussing compensation for the next of kin.
