Iran urges to call UNSC meeting due to aggressions against Lebanon

Moscow., Iran calls for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council (UNSC) amid Israeli “terrorist aggression” against Lebanon, the Persian country’s mission to the UN reported.

“Iran condemns in the strongest terms these cowardly acts of aggression. Given the serious implications for regional and international peace and security, Iran calls on the Security Council to unequivocally condemn Israel’s actions in the strongest possible terms. Furthermore, “Iran calls on the Security Council to convene an emergency meeting to address Israel’s terrorist aggression and the atrocities that the belligerent Israeli regime continues to commit in Lebanon and throughout the region,” the statement said.

Israel and Lebanon have been in an undeclared war since last October 8, when the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah began launching missiles and suicide drones towards communities in northern Israel as a gesture of solidarity with the Palestinian movement Hamas, after its armed incursion into Israel, which, in turn, responded to each attack.

The actions of both Israel and Hezbollah have been escalating, and there are fears that the conflict could turn into an open war or even a regional one.

In total, since October 8, Israel’s attacks have claimed the lives of at least 1,670 people in Lebanon, and injured more than 8,600.

The Government of Lebanon has already asked the UN to intervene and stop the aggression. Hezbollah, for its part, fires missiles towards the north of Israeli territory.
