Iran to deliver Fath-360 ballistic missiles to the Russian Federation – DW – 08/10/2024

Iran plans to supply hundreds of Fath-360 ballistic missiles to Russia. Reuters reported this on Friday, August 9, citing two sources in European intelligence agencies. Dozens of Russian military personnel are already passing through in Iran training used, said the group. “Moscow has its own ballistic missiles, but delivery of the Fath-360 could allow Russia to use more of its arsenal to strike targets far from the front line,” the report said.

Citing confidential intelligence sources, the group’s interlocutors said that Russian personnel visited Iran to learn how to operate the Fath-360 defense system, which fires missiles with a maximum range of 120 km and a warhead weighing 150 kg. Both intelligence sources did not provide an exact timetable for the delivery of the Fath-360 missiles to Russia, but said it would happen soon.

The supply contract was signed in December

Producers Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation signed a contract with Iranian officials in Tehran on December 13 for the Fath-360 short-range missile and another ballistic missile system built by Iran’s Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO) called Ababil, two intelligence officials said on condition that trust, Reuters noted.

A senior Iranian official, who asked not to be named, said there was no legal prohibition on Tehran selling such weapons to Russia.

The US is ready to respond to missile launches

A spokesperson for the US National Security Council said that the United States, my friends NATO and the G7 partners are “ready to give a quick and strong response if Iran continues these moves,” Reuters said.

This “would mean a significant increase in Iranian support for Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine,” the US administration official said: “White House has repeatedly warned about the deep partnership between Russia and Iran from the beginning full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine“.

Until now, Iran’s military support for Moscow has been limited primarily to attack drones Blewwhich carry explosives and are easier to shoot down because they are slower than ballistic missiles.
