Iran, the death sentence of dissident journalist Ruollah Zam- Corriere.it carried out

The dissident Iranian journalist Ruollah Zam, founder of the Amad News channel, was executed in a prison in his country in the early hours of Saturday. He was arrested in 2019, upon returning to Iran after a refugee stint in France, where he was placed under protection from the Paris government. He had been in prison for a few weeks before his escape abroad for challenging the Iranian establishment in power after the 2009 presidential election. Last June he was sentenced to death, accused of inciting the street protests that inflamed the country in 2017 and 2018 through an online platform conveyed on Telegram. In a short time, the Amad News channel had gained great popularity. The news of the execution was released by local authorities and re-launched by the Reuters agency.

Ruollah Zam was 42 years old and was the son of Mohammad Ali — Zam, a reformist who held political posts in the 1980s and 1990s.
