Today, Tuesday, the Iranian Assistant Minister of Interior for Security Affairs, Majid Mir Ahmadi, said that the competent authorities have arrested five people on the background of a case of poisoning female students in Iranian schools.

Mir Ahmadi told Iranian television that, according to preliminary investigations, the competent authorities have arrested five people in connection with the issue of the deterioration of the health of students in Iranian schools, adding that full details and results of the investigations will be announced later.

He pointed out that “the enemy is trying to harm the educational system in Iran by spreading panic and fear among the students,” pointing out that “the cases of poisoning have decreased today, and the competent authorities will complete the investigation until the circumstances of the case are revealed.”

This comes after hundreds of female students in several regions of Iran were exposed to gas poisoning in dozens of education centers during the past three months. The female students complained of various symptoms, including nausea, headache, breathing problems, coughing and body aches.

Yesterday, the Iranian Supreme Leader, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, said that the authorities should seriously follow up on the case of female students’ poisoning, describing it as an “unforgivable crime.”

On Sunday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stressed the need for decisive follow-up to the case, describing it as a “new plot by the enemy” and a “crime against humanity.”

For his part, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani confirmed, on Friday, that the government has placed a top priority on following up on the issue of poisoning and its causes, and publishing documented information on the results of the investigations.

In turn, Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi announced that field investigations related to cases of poisoning of girls in the country’s schools had found “suspicious samples.”
