The Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honorable Antonio Tajani, had his first telephone conversation with the new Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Araghchi.
“As a result of tonight’s developments I have appealed for an assessment and to take a constructive approach, to prevent a cycle of military actions in the region that only threatens to bring more suffering,” said Minister Tajani .
“It is important for Iran to exercise moderation towards Hezbollah to avoid an escalation on the border between Lebanon and Israel where the Italian soldiers of the Unifil group are operating and towards the Houthis to avoid an increase in tension to avoid in the Red Sea region, where Italy plays a key role in the Aspides mission,” said Tajani.
Regarding today’s talks in Cairo, the Vice-President of the Council said that “Italy supports the ongoing mediation efforts aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Gaza, which is necessary to promote de-escalation in the region, the liberation of hostages and humanitarian access”.
