TEHRAN, April 27 (Xinhua) — Iran supports any consensus among Lebanese sects on electing a president for the country, and calls on all foreign parties to respect this decision without interference, Iran’s foreign minister said on Thursday.
Hossein Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in a speech he delivered during a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bou Habib after their meeting in Beirut earlier in the day, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
Amir Abdallahian said that he discussed during his meeting with Bou Habib a number of bilateral issues and the internal situation in Lebanon, in addition to important regional and international developments.
He stressed that Lebanese officials and political parties have the capacity and capacity to reach a consensus on electing a president for the country, noting that Tehran wishes Beirut well.
During the meeting, Amir Abdollahian expressed Iran’s readiness to enhance economic, trade and tourism relations with Lebanon as much as possible.
In turn, Bou Habib said that he had spoken with his Iranian counterpart about the agreement reached by Tehran and Riyadh, mediated by Beijing, regarding the normalization of relations.
He noted that the two sides also discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
The Lebanese minister stressed that the Iranian-Saudi agreement reached in March will have repercussions for his country, Yemen, Palestine and Syria.
