Iran strongly condemns European and British sanctions and reserves the right to respond soon

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said in a press statement, Tuesday, that Iran “strongly condemns” the recent sanctions imposed by the West on Tehran, and will soon announce new sanctions against entities in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

Kanani added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to respond, and will soon announce a new sanctions list against human rights violators and promoters of terrorism in the European Union and the United Kingdom,” according to his claim.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Kanani “strongly condemned the imposition of sanctions by the European Union and the United Kingdom on a number of Iranian entities.”

“Of course, they know very well that the sanctions will not affect the Iranian people’s determination to deal with foreign interference and conspiracies,” Kanani said, according to the statement.

The United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom imposed new sanctions on Tehran, on Monday, in an attempt to intensify pressure on it because of its suppression of the recent protests.

The latest package of sanctions, a coordinated move between the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom, came, according to the British Foreign Office, in response to the “appalling violence perpetrated by the Iranian regime against its own people”.

Pro-state Iranian media reported the execution of Ali Reza Akbari, who holds dual Iranian and British nationalities, in Tehran on charges of espionage and corruption.

Among those affected by British sanctions is Iran’s Deputy Attorney General Ahmad Fazelian, and the British Foreign Office said in a statement that he was “responsible for a judicial system characterized by unfair trials and harsh penalties, including the use of the death penalty for political purposes,” according to the statement.

On Monday, the US Treasury imposed sanctions on: “The Cooperative Foundation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and five members of its board of directors, the Iranian Deputy Minister of Intelligence and Security, and four senior leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards for their involvement in the violent suppression of the protests,” according to what the Treasury announced.
