Iran: Starts enriching uranium to 60 percent from Wednesday

The statement from Abbas Aragachi comes shortly after the sabotage operation against the Natanz nuclear plant.

In the past, Iran has enriched uranium up to 20 percent. Technically, this is a short step away from the purity required for the production of nuclear weapons.

The state-owned English-language broadcaster Press TV says the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been informed of the decision. The IAEA has not yet responded to the news agency AP’s request for comment.

According to Press TV, Aragachi also says that Iran will install 1,000 new centrifuges in Natanz, but does not elaborate on this.

– Such actions will only make the situation difficult

The Iranian foreign minister warned on the same day that the sabotage operation could damage the talks that are taking place in an attempt to revive the nuclear agreement with the country. The goal is to get the United States back in the fold and to limit Iran’s enrichment activity in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.

– The Americans should know that neither sanctions nor sabotage will give them any negotiating tool. They should know that such actions will only make the situation difficult for them, sa Mohammad Javar Zarif i Teheran.
