Iran Ready to Resume Nuclear Talks, But Not Under Western Pressure

TEHERAN – President Iran, Ebrahim Raisi says that Tehran is ready to resume talks to revive it nuclear deal, but not under Western pressure. The indirect talks which took place in Vienna, Austria are currently on “suspended” status.

Raisi also underlined that Tehran is trying to carry out negotiations that will eventually lead to an easing of US sanctions. Also read: Reveals International Drug Network from Iran, West Jakarta Police Collaborates with DEA

“I stated earlier that the issue of talks, of course, will be central to our government, but not the pressure they (the West) apply (against Iran). The talks will not work if they continue to be under pressure,” Raisi said.

“Talks are on the agenda. We are looking for goal-oriented negotiations, so that sanctions against the Iranian people are lifted,” he continued, as reported by Sputnik on Sunday (5/9/2021).

Last month, France, Germany and Britain expressed “grave concern” over a UN nuclear watchdog assessment showing Iran has produced uranium metal enriched with a fissile purity of 20 percent for the first time, and increased its uranium enrichment capacity to 60 percent.

These actions, the countries claim, are a serious violation of Iran’s commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, which limited Tehran’s refining purity of uranium to 3.67 percent.

Furthermore, European powers penalized Iran for restricting the access of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) by withdrawing from the nuclear monitoring agreement. Also read: US Military Equipment Previously Owned by Afghan Soldiers Shows Up in Iran

In turn, Iran insisted that its nuclear program was peaceful, that it had informed the IAEA of its operations and that any move away from the 2015 agreement would be scrapped if the US returned to the agreement, and lifted sanctions.
