Iran prepares its response against Israel, according to the New York Times

Three Iranian sources familiar with the matter revealed to the New York Times that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, has ordered the Supreme National Security Council to prepare an attack against Israel.

The move comes after military chiefs considered a detailed report assessing the extent of damage to Iran’s missile production capabilities, air defense systems around Tehran, critical energy infrastructure and the country’s main southern port.

According to these sources, Khamenei believes that the scale of the Israeli attack and the number of victims in Lebanon are too important to ignore, believing that a lack of response would be tantamount to admitting defeat.

According to two Israeli sources cited by Axios, Israeli intelligence services believe that an Iranian attack against Israel could take place this time from Iraqi territory, and that it would include a large number of drones and ballistic missiles.

Iran’s military commanders are currently working on a list of dozens of military targets in Israel. However, contrary to what was suggested, the attack should not take place before the American elections, with Tehran fearing that a regional escalation would benefit Donald Trump in his election campaign.
