In recent months, Iran has increased its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, further expanding its nuclear program, even as it denies it is seeking a nuclear arsenal, according to a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Stockpiles of 60% enriched uranium – close to the 90% needed to develop an atomic bomb – stood at 164.7kg on 17 August (compared to 142.1kg in May). Enough, if enriched to a higher degree, for at least three nuclear bombs.

IAEA chief Rafael Grossi is expected to travel to Iran soon to hold talks with new president Massoud Pezeskian. In a confidential document obtained by the French News Agency (AFP), Raphael Grossi expresses “the desire to visit Iran soon, in order to establish an uninterrupted and constructive dialogue that will lead to tangible results.”
