At a press conference on Monday night, the White House warns of a potentially dangerous cooperation between Iran and Russia, reports Associated Press (AP).
According to US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Russia has approached Iran to obtain “hundreds” of armed drones for use in the war against Ukraine.
“Our information indicates that the Iranian government is preparing to provide Russia with up to several hundred UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Systems), including weapon-compatible UAVs, in the near future,” Sullivan said.
It is still unclear whether the country has already delivered the drones.
In addition, the White House believes that Iran will assist Russia with the necessary training to use the drones.
The revelation comes just before US President Joe Biden travels to Israel and Saudi Arabia, where he is expected to discuss Iran’s nuclear program and “malicious activities” in the region.
The security adviser claims that Iran provided similar weapons to Houthi rebels in Yemen, who were used to attack Saudi Arabia before the ceasefire earlier this year.
