Vice Admiral Eli Sharvit, who recently retired from the Navy, stopped short of confirming a series of attacks and accidents on Iranian ships attributed to the Zionist military.
But he described Tehran’s activities on the high seas as Israel’s main concern and said its navy could strike wherever necessary to protect the economic and security interests of the Jewish state.
“The state of Israel will protect its freedom of navigation around the world,” Sharvit told The Associated Press, a few days after completing his five-year term.
“It is not related to the distance from the country,” he said again, which was launched on Friday (17/9/2021).
Sharvit was a busy man during his tenure—supervising the small but well-equipped army responsible for guarding Israel’s Mediterranean coast as well as the Red Sea, an important gateway for imports from Asia.

Threats include the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which has an arsenal of surface-to-sea missiles, and the militant group Hamas in Gaza, which has developed a small naval commando force, as well as the challenges posed by Iranian military activity across the region.
