Iran joined the SCO and called for the abandonment of the dollar

news-id-112531" style="display:inline;">Iran has become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which includes China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The decision was made on Tuesday at the online summit of the SCO heads of state in New Delhi, Tengrinews.kz reports citing RIA Novosti.

“Member states stressed the historical significance of the admission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the SCO as a full member state,” the declaration adopted at the end of the summit says.

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said that this decision will provide his country with conditions for strengthening security, sovereignty and sustainable economic development. Speaking at the summit, he also called on the SCO member countries to switch to settlements in national currencies.

“The hegemony of the Western world contributes to the hegemony of the dollar. In order to create a new economic order, it is necessary to remove this instrument of hegemony in world practice, to use national currencies in settlements between countries,” Raisi said.
