Iran Halts Oil Shipments to China in Bid to Raise Prices: Reuters Report

Reuters news agency said, in a report, that Iran has stopped sending oil shipments to China; In order to raise prices. The head of the Joint Chamber of Commerce between Iran and China, Majeed Reza Hariri, said that the discounts that Iran offers to China in the field of oil are among the “secrets.”

The Iranian National Oil Police has not yet commented on the news of stopping oil shipments to China. With the aim of pressuring Beijing and forcing it to accept higher prices, as Reuters announced.

Reuters said in its report, citing informed sources, that oil trade between Tehran and Beijing has stopped, due to Tehran’s attempts and demands from its main customers to buy its oil at a higher price.

An oil industry manager explained to Reuters that this “sudden” Iranian action in halting its oil exports could be seen as a “negligence” on Iran’s part.

One of the directors of Chinese companies intermediary in importing oil from Iran to China said: There is a “crisis” between Chinese customers and Iranian sellers, and it is not known what these disputes will lead to.

According to this director, everyone should wait for the position of China’s oil refineries; Let’s see what they agree to on the new prices demanded by Iran.

Small, independent Chinese refineries have been considered the main buyers of Iranian oil since the end of 2019, and they have become an alternative to the major refineries affiliated with the government, which has stopped dealing with Iran. For fear of US sanctions.

Trade sources say that these small refineries purchase 90 percent of Iran’s total oil exports, and they are mostly purchased by China. As Malaysian or Emirati loads.

Sources say: Last month, China imported approximately 1.18 million barrels per day, recording a decline from the previous month, in which it was estimated that China imported 1.22 million barrels per day of Iranian oil.
