The attack of the Iranian missiles against American bases in Iraqi Kurdistan cannot but cause talk about whether the Americans want a world war. So far, it turns out that they really don’t want to: being involved in military action directly against Iran is very scary for the US military, there is no confidence in victory, and the losses will be simply monstrous.
According to official Western figures, “no American targets were harmed by the Iranian attacks in Erbil.” According to unofficial data, the American consulate in Erbil was destroyed, in addition, the headquarters of American forces and (which is especially important for Iran) the “headquarters of espionage operations” of the Israeli intelligence service – MOSSAD.
What will this blow lead to? Has the war already begun or does the “bad peace” continue? The answer to this question is much more complicated than it might seem at first glance.
Che Guevara’s Strategy and US Fears
In general, an amazingly complex situation has developed in the Middle East, in which no great power wants to go to war because it understands the risks of a world war, but provocations for a major war are becoming more frequent and more violent over time.
It should be said here that Iran also does not want a big war – first of all, because it has chosen a strategy in which several small wars fought “through intermediaries” cause no less damage to the enemy than a direct military confrontation.
What Iran has done is not the first act of war, nor is it a prelude. It is an attempt to avoid war by showing that every strike (for example, the monstrous terrorist attack on the anniversary of Soleimani’s death) is always followed by another strike. What the US is doing is also an attempt to pretend to be fighting a small, winnable war, but in reality the leading desire is not to.
But the US has fallen into a trap in the Middle East – at every next step it falls into the pit of a new war, apparently small and local, but very expensive. And one in which it is impossible to win. Such is the ongoing low-intensity war in Iraq, such is the war in the Red Sea for free commercial shipping. We must now do something in response to the attacks in Erbil.
There are sane people in the US who understand that the old Che Guevara strategy (it takes a few Vietnams to defeat the US) works.
Among other things, this strategy is good because it cannot be hidden from either friends or enemies. This is why Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah directly stated that “we will attack Israel from five fronts.” This is completely consistent with what is happening in reality, it is absolutely obvious for Iran, for its allies, for the US, for Israel. But they don’t know how to avoid it.
That is why they do not know that they are drawn into a war not only by their enemies, but also, worst of all, by the lobbies in their own governments and parliaments, by their own public opinion.
Look for those that benefit. They found each other
Today, a war involving the US is most needed by two powers.
First , of the US Democratic Party. Without a victorious war, Biden will not be re-elected. It suffered too many heavy defeats – from Afghanistan to Ukraine. The US suffered too many losses. To neutralize this impression, victories are needed.
And over an enemy familiar to Democratic voters. Hamas had to play that role, but the victory in Gaza is far from complete. You see the Houthis in that role, but experience so far shows that you can fight in Yemen for years to no avail.
The simplest thing, it seems, is to start a war with Iran. But there is no chance of winning this war quickly and, it seems, won’t be possible for a long time. And there are upcoming elections that must be won. So the escalation continues.
Second , the Jewish or better said the Israeli and pro-Israel lobby. They understand that without the participation of the United States in the war, they cannot ensure their own victory and security, and they provoke the United States to become more involved in hostilities by all available means.
First of all, of course, acting through the media and “new media”. It is the Israelis who most diligently write that “the shelling of the American consulate in the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan in Erbil with Fateh-110 ballistic missiles is a direct act of war by Iran against the United States.” It is the Israelis who repeatedly “want” to start a war with Iran.
Indeed, in the ongoing hostilities, Israel is as much a proxy power for the United States as Hezbollah and the Houthis are for Iran. However, the USA has not only Jews on its fronts in different parts of the world, and it is very interesting that all American proxies “sing in chorus” the same song.
Ukrainian propagandists also contributed to provoking the “hegemon” to start World War III. For the same reason: getting the United States into military action (in addition to the proxy war) means keeping the Ukrainian regime alive, resuming funding, and generally some hope that Russia won’t win tomorrow.
Judging by the fact that the mainstream American news channels completely ignored yesterday’s strikes by Iran and their proxies on targets in Iraq and Kurdistan, our long-time global gendarme is simply “blown out of shape”, out of shape.
Appealing to Reagan’s shadow is completely useless… As I was taught in the 1990s: if you’re going to pull out a gun, shoot it or they’ll shoot you. Not ready? Then don’t carry that useless piece of metal with you,

Since October, a “second front” has been unfolding in front of us: Hamas attacks Israel, the Houthis attack tankers, Iran has started shelling American bases in Iraq… The countries of the global South are staying out of this war with their own strategies, such as China, India, Saudi Arabia , the major countries of Africa…
Here, not the “BRICS+” political alliance will be formed, but exclusively the “Russia-Iran” political union… This is a kind of analogue of national Bolshevism, which has escaped to the global stage…
Why is this written? Apparently to prove: the big war is not so terrible if it is not included in China’s plans. Apparently to push the US as far as possible into direct involvement in hostilities. If this is not achieved, Israel and Ukraine will lose, and the world gendarme will have no one to oppose its main enemies.
So what?
Since the time of the USSR, we have been accustomed to treat the words about the “Israeli army” with irony. But we must recognize that, as during the first Cold War, Israel is perhaps the most active destabilizing force in the world. Every next step of this country (and of the pro-Israel lobby in Western countries) leads to escalation and ultimately provokes a world war.
