The Israel Defense Forces announced that rockets were fired at Israel from the territory of Iran, reported AFP.

Air raid sirens were sounded throughout Israel. An order was issued for the inhabitants of the country to take refuge in bomb shelters.

AFP journalists in Jerusalem reported that explosions could be heard from rockets intercepted over the city, BTA notes.

According to Israeli media reports, up to 100 rockets were fired.

Earlier today, the Israeli military said a possible Iranian attack was expected to be massive and urged residents to take cover in the event of an attack.

Iran has threatened to retaliate after attacks that killed senior leaders of its ally Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The missile attack came after the Israeli army launched a ground operation in Lebanon, leading to the biggest escalation of the military standoff in the region since the start of the Gaza war.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has threatened to launch “crushing attacks” on regional Israel if it retaliates to the Islamic Republic’s missile attack.

“If the Zionist regime responds to Iran’s operations, it will face crushing attacks,” the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement carried by Iran’s Fars news agency.

He added that the attack was in response to the assassination of Nasrallah.

Air traffic has been suspended at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport.

“There are currently no takeoffs or landings,” a spokesman for Israel’s main international airport said.

After which it was reported that Israel’s airspace was closed.
