Authority Iran execute a man who had been sentenced to death for working for an intelligence agency Israel.
“The death sentence was carried out this morning against a spy for the Zionist regime in Zahedan prison in Sistan-Baluchistan province,” said the Mizan Online court website, as reported by the news agency AFPSaturday (16/12/2023).
The identity of the man was not stated, but according to Mizan Online, the man had been sentenced to death for “intelligence cooperation and espionage for the benefit of the Zionist regime (Israel)”.
He was also found guilty of “collecting and providing classified information to the Mossad spy service with the aim of disrupting public order”, Mizan added.
It was not immediately clear when and where the man was arrested or charged.
Iranian authorities had previously announced the arrest of suspected agents working for foreign countries, including Israel, Iran’s archenemy in the region.
In December 2022, the Islamic republic hanged four people who were sentenced to death for collaborating with Israeli intelligence agencies.
Iran does not recognize Israel and the two countries have long been involved in hostilities.
Tehran has accused Israel of carrying out a wave of sabotage and assassination attacks targeting its nuclear program.
The United States and Israel accuse Iran of using drones and missiles to attack US forces and ships linked to Israel in the Gulf.
According to a number of human rights groups, including Amnesty International, Iran executes more people per year than any other country, except China.
