In Iran, a protester was executed for his involvement in nationwide protests against the regime in recent months. He hung up. It is the first time the death penalty has been carried out against one of the protesters of those protests.
According to Iranian news agencies, the man was arrested for blocking a road in Tehran and assaulting a member of the Revolutionary Guard with a machete. According to the regime, the man would have been paid for that attack on the security services.
It is an argument that Iran often uses to explain the unrest in the country. Foreign countries would pay people to spark anti-government protests.
Other executions
More executions are likely to follow soon. According to human rights organization Amnesty International, at least 21 other protesters have been sentenced to death for their involvement in fierce protests against the Iranian regime.
The protests began in September after the death of Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini, who was arrested by police for not wearing a headscarf properly. She died in prison.
