Teheran –
Iran showing off his military equipment in a military parade on the streets of Tehran, the capital of Iran, to commemorate the 1980s war with Irak. Equipment on display includes ‘the world’s longest-range drone’ along with ballistic and hypersonic missiles.
As reported Reuters, Friday (22/9/2023), Iranian state media reports said the drone was ‘revealed’ at a parade in Tehran on Friday (22/9) local time, which was broadcast live on local television. A number of drone Iran displayed in the parade were called Mohajer, Shahed and Arash.
The Islamic Republic of Iran said last month that it had assembled an advanced drone called the Mohajer-10 that it claimed had improved flight range and duration, and was capable of carrying a larger payload.
This type of drone, according to Iranian state media at the time, had an operational range of up to 2,000 kilometers and could stay in the air for a maximum of 24 hours. The payload that can be carried by the drone is said to be capable of reaching 300 kilograms, or twice the capacity of the Mohajer-6 drone.
United States of America (US) accused Iran of supplying Mohajer-6 drones, among other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), to Russia to be used in the war against Ukraine.
On Tuesday (19/9) local time, Washington expanded sanctions related to Iran, arguing that Tehran’s “deliberate and ongoing proliferation of UAVs has enabled Russia, its proxies in the Middle East and other destabilizing actors.”
Iran denies it has supplied drones to Russia for use in the conflict in Ukraine.
“Our troops guarantee security in the region and the Persian Gulf. We can teach the people of this region that resistance is the way to go now. What forces the enemy to retreat is not submission and hesitation, but resistance,” said the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in the parade.
