Iran asked Interpol for help in capturing Trump: a “ceremonial gesture” that can “play in favor” of the US President

Iran has issued an arrest warrant and asked Interpol for help in detaining US President Donald Trump and 35 other people whom he considers responsible for the attack that killed Iranian general Qassem Soleimani. The information was released on Monday, the same day that health authorities reported the record number of 162 deaths associated with covid-19 in 24 hours, the highest in the country since the pandemic began.

Tehran prosecutor Ali Alqasimehr did not identify the three and a half dozen people he also accused of being involved in the January 3 attack that fatally hit Soleimani, who oversaw Iraqi operations of the country’s Revolutionary Guard. However, the prosecutor stressed that Trump and the rest face “charges of murder and terrorism”, ensuring that Tehran will continue to insist on the US president’s sentencing even after the end of his term.
