The 2,600 square meters that make up this public space will be intervened
After the start of the eviction of migrants carried out last Friday, September 24 in the Plaza Gerardo Poblete, better known as “Plaza Brasil”, the Municipality of Iquique began with its program of recovery of this public space, as it was coordinated, in where the first task was the cleaning and disinfection of the place, in addition to the installation of a perimeter fence of 350 linear meters.
“We made a commitment with the residents of the sector to intervene the 2,600 m2 corresponding to this square, so that it once again becomes the family meeting point that it was before the arrival of the pandemic”Said Mayor Mauricio Soria Macchiavello.
During the first day of repair of green areas, the Cleaning and Ornament Directorate removed 400 m2 of contaminated soil, out of a total of 1,040 m2, where new gardens will be created.
Among the works considered for this place, the replacement of urban furniture, installation of more lighting, implementation of technical irrigation and beautification in terms of the painting of the place is contemplated.
“Once we finish with these works, we will continue talking with the residents of the place, especially with those who live in the Patricio Lynch Housing Complex to carry out a major renovation project of this well-known Plaza Brasil”, Asserted the communal chief of Iquiqueño.
