The national and regional authorities in the O’Higgins region presented an assessment of the work being done by the Social Security Institute (IPS) through the program “PGU in your Neighborhood”, which allows contacting potential beneficiaries who have not yet requested the benefit.
This activity, which took place at the institution’s headquarters, was attended by the national deputy director (s) of the IPS, Lenia Pizarro; the regional director, Tatiana Ramírez; the Seremi of Labor, Jaime Chamorro, as well as a large number of beneficiaries of the Universal Guaranteed Pension (PGU).
This national campaign, which the IPS has been carrying out since 2022, has resulted in more than 106,000 people being contacted to request the PGU and find out how to do so. In the O’Higgins region alone, more than 9,400 people are eligible, of which 3,175 are in the Rancagua commune.
The acting deputy director of the IPS reported that the meeting with regional authorities is aimed at announcing the results of the program to contact potential beneficiaries called “PGU in your Neighborhood,” where they have been locating the beneficiaries in various ways for a year and a half, as well as direct contact in people’s homes throughout the country.
Pizarro said that more than a million notifications (letters, text messages, emails) have been sent and some operations have been carried out in conjunction with the municipalities.
“Our idea, our purpose and our objective is to reach all the people who, being beneficiaries, take longer to apply,” said the IPS representative, adding that the universe of potential beneficiaries is getting smaller every day.
He stressed that this state benefit amounts to 214 thousand pesos, which are paid monthly to people who have a pension with a limit of more than 700 thousand pesos.
He called on people over 65 years of age who belong to the poorest 90% of the population to go to any of the 201 IPS branches that operate throughout the country to apply for this benefit.
The Seremi of Labor, Jaime Chamorro, assured that this is “one more of the measures that President Gabriel Boric has extended to the entire population so that there is economic security and we make it to the end of the month well”, not only with the PGU, but also with the Winter Bonus and the Single Family Subsidy, which are economic security measures for the homes of the most vulnerable members of society.
Chamorro said that the Ministry of Labor and Social Security is related to the IPS because it is one of its dependent local services, so it is important to give the greatest possible publicity to the population of the O’Higgins region about the work carried out by the IPS.
“We have offices in 24 of the 33 municipalities in the region, where assistance is not only provided in person, but also through the website www.chileatiende.cl, to qualify for this important financial support.
Beneficiaries of the program
One of the beneficiaries, Mariana Masa said that she had applied twice without success and that thanks to a visit to her home, she was informed that she did have that help.
“It has been very important for me, because I have been a housewife all my life and have never had a salary, that has helped me a lot and makes me a little more independent,” said the happy beneficiary of the “PGU in your Neighborhood” program.
Likewise, Francisco Correa, another of the beneficiaries of this benefit, said that he was contacted at his home, and that this benefit has been quite positive and appreciated by the people who work in the IPS offices and he is grateful for the work that is done in the field.
“This is a reality, it is true (…) I am very grateful and many thanks to the people who work in this institution,” Correa concluded.
