The inauguration ceremony of the Blood Producing Center, located in the IPS Central Hospital, was held today in the presence of the President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, who proceeded to donate blood after the event.
Dr. Romy Alcaraz, head of the Center, provided details about the characteristics of the new establishment.

“This day is a milestone in our history. The infrastructure is friendly to the environment, not a single tree was felled for its construction, it takes full advantage of natural light, meets quality standards, with a technical flow chart to obtain our donors, biological qualification, production and the distribution to the different IPS centers, which was recently certified ”, said the professional to begin her speech.
Regarding the characteristics of the Center, he pointed out: “Our institute receives 24,000 donors a year. The Center is designed to receive double. It performs more than 40,000 transfusions and we export plasma for industry, the surplus plasma, which comes back in the form of drugs that cannot otherwise be manufactured. This remuneration is totally free and in this way the institute saves on the purchase of these high-cost drugs ”.

“We have different areas and laboratories, equipped with the highest quality, so that the blood components are optimal. We were certified by our governing body, which is the National Blood Program. All of these standardized operating processes must be done by highly qualified professionals. In this sense, we are the only center in the country that trains medical specialists in transfusion medicine, so the project introduced a library and auditorium, with the name of Dr. Óscar Alberto Echeverría Ramírez, who was head of the unit for almost 30 years, “he said.
In addition, he commented that the center covers the three levels of health care: promotion, prevention and recovery. He indicated that they hold talks and discussions in educational centers about blood donation.

Finally, the doctor said that the mission of the center is “to provide safe blood at the right time” and stressed the importance of taking care of health in order to be a donor.
