Tony Fadell is the former Apple executive who is often referred to as the father of the iPod. After the EU decided that cell phones (among other things) must be equipped with a USB-C connector, Fadell now praises the decision. to write from 9 to 5 Mac.
He believes that Apple doesn’t like being forced to do certain things, but that this happened because Apple has a monopoly position. Forcing USB-C is the right thing for society at large to do, Fadell believes, as consumers benefit from certain regulations and standardizations. He adds “and this comes from the man who invented the 30 pin connector”.

Starting in 2024, the smallest electronic devices sold in Europe that charge via cable must have a USB-C port. The arguments include that different pricing standards are harmful to both the consumer and the planet.
The Lightning port was introduced by Apple on September 12, 2012 and has been present on all iPhones ever since.
