iPhones are better investments than Android smartphones, study finds

We saw it recently: iPhone 16 presales during the first weekend following their announcement at Apple’s last Keynote were relatively disappointing compared to those of last year. And yet, according to a CIRP study (Consumer Intelligence Research Partners), Apple devices remain the best investment according to users. Let’s go into a little detail.

iPhones seem to keep their value longer on the second-hand market

According to this study, 41% of iPhone users have resold their previous model, compared to 14% of Android users. It is therefore more common for an iPhone owner to recover money on their investment. Note, however, that this statistic seems quite logical: after all, iPhones are generally more expensive than Android devices (we are not talking about flagships like a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, but rather certain entry-level devices), it It is therefore consistent that their users try to recover money by reselling them to obtain the new model.

However, a complementary study posted on October 2 by the CIRP shows that iPhone owners tend to keep their smartphone longer than Android device owners. And generally speaking, iPhones hold their value a little longer than Android models. Indeed, according to another study (SellCell)the iPhone 15 range took longer to lose value than other smartphone models released during 2023, such as the Google Pixel or the Samsung Galaxy S23. Thus, during the first three months, the iPhone 15 saw a drop in value of 27.4%, while the Samsung Galaxy S23 lost 43.5% in the space of a few months. All of this data implies one thing: it seems more profitable in the long term to get an iPhone, especially if you want to sell it after a few years to get a new one.
