IOS 16 Battery Life: iPhone users keep complaining
iOS 16 was available for Only about two weeksUsers keep complaining that the update has ruined their iPhone’s battery life. While a temporary battery life issue is normal after a software update, this time it seems like something else is happening, with iPhone users continuing to complain after a couple of weeks …
Battery life of iOS 16
When you update your iPhone to a new version of iOS, there is usually a temporary increase in battery life right after installing the update. This is because iOS does things in the background like re-indexing files, photos, apps, and more. This kind of damage to your iPhone’s battery is especially noticeable with Apple’s annual software releases, such as iOS 16, because they are huge upgrades.
In general, this leads to an influx of battery life complaints soon after a new software version is released. But once the background re-indexing is complete, the complaints usually go away. This year, however, the complaints have not subsided and many users have become convinced that iOS 16 has completely ruined the battery life of their iPhone.
Quick search on any social media platform, including Reddit on TikTok on Twitter, will reveal thousands of complaints from iPhone users. All of these users are claiming that their iPhone’s battery life has taken a hit since they installed iOS 16 two weeks ago. And of course, there are a number of conspiracy theories about Apple deliberately reducing the battery life of older iPhones to boost iPhone 14 sales.
In a survey 9to5Mac Readers last week63% of iPhone users said battery life deteriorated after installing iOS 16. This appears to be largely consistent with the general feeling about iOS 16’s battery life impact. redA user writes:
My low battery is a lot more than usual. I work in an office and don’t use much at 1pm during the day, and nothing has changed in my behavior. In iOS 15, I often came home with 85% – 90% left. With iOS 16, the percentage is between 65% and 75%. I think this is too much when I barely use my phone.
Another user:
The battery of the 13 pro max is draining like crazy. It’s gone from 11-12 hours SOT to just 7 hours and I’m late when I do FaceTime or PiP, generally it’s late. I know it takes a few days for the phone to get back to normal, but it’s been about a week already. I’m looking back on 15.7, but some advice may be needed first.
Apple has yet to address these iOS 16 user battery life issues. The company has done so iOS 16.0.2 released to the public No battery life improvement mentioned. IOS 16.1 is also currently in beta testing.
