Many people think that you can increase battery life by manually closing apps when you are not actively using them, but the truth is that it can actually have the opposite effect and drain more battery. In fact, it’s one of Apple’s more high-profile executives, Craig Federighi, who has stated that you don’t need to close apps manually. The explanation for this is that Ios handles mutlitasking so that apps that are not in use and are in the background do not drain battery, but instead lie dormant until the next time you start the app in question. Therefore, if you have manually exited an app, it can drain more battery because the app then has to restart and cannot just return from its sleep so you can continue where you last exited.
The times when manually closing apps has a purpose is when an app hangs and doesn’t work and then the only way to get it working may be to first close it.
