iPhone soon able to display remaining charge time

According to the site 9to5mac, Apple is working on a feature allowing its iPhones to display the remaining charging time. It should be deployed in a future update.

Apple could soon catch up on Android smartphones. While many of these phones, like Samsung’s, already display the remaining charging time when plugged in, it’s possible that iPhones will soon be able to do this as well.

The American site 9to5mac has in fact discovered a line of code in the beta version of a future update, iOS 18.2, suggesting the arrival of such a function. This is known as “BatteryIntelligence” for the moment.

A function not yet ready

This function will calculate the estimated time to charge an iPhone. For this, it is possible that it is based on the quantity of energy received by the smartphone, which differs depending on the charger used. Users will notably be able to receive a notification telling them how long it will take for the charge to reach 80%.

If this feature was detected in the iOS 18.2 beta code, it may not be available when this update officially rolls out (potentially in December). The 9to5mac site specifies that the function is not yet ready. In other words, Apple should still work on it before launching it.

This new feature joins other functions dedicated to battery health recently deployed by Apple. With iOS 18, the iPhone now informs the user when they are using a slow chargerwith a message appearing in the Battery section, in the settings. Another function, reserved for iPhone 15, allows users to limit the maximum charge of their device to 80%, 85%, 90% or 95%.
