Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The sophistication offered by the iPhone has indeed made many people tempted to have an iPhone. There is even a saying that “once used iPhone will not switch to Android”. However, this statement can be countered by a smartphone company from China, namely Xiaomi.
Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun revealed that there are many iPhone 12 users who have finally switched to Xiaomi 13. There are several things that underlie this ‘migration’.
One of them is related to battery charging
i. According to one user, the charging speed of the iPhone 12 and Xiaomi 13 is quite different, reported by Gizchina, quoted on Saturday (11/3/2023).
In launching the Xiaomi 13, the Chinese manufacturer is targeting the iPhone 14 Pro to be compared with this cellphone. For example, from the side of the battery, which already uses a capacity of 4,500 mAh.
When tested, its resistance can be up to 1.37 days. This achievement surpasses the iPhone 14 Pro Max which is stuck at 1.28 days.
Xiaomi 13 is also supported by fast charging of 67W. This figure is not too big when compared to other Android phones. However, when referring to the iPhone 14 Pro with 27W fast charging, Xiaomi 13 is far superior.
Cell phone signal is also a problem for users. The Xiaomi 13 reportedly provides a very good signal in any room and building. Smooth operation, in this case referring to MIUI 14, is also a factor in their migration.
On the other hand, Xiaomi 13 uses the Qualcomm 8 Gen 2 chipset. The processor is also said to be far superior to that issued by Apple for its cellphones.
Gizchina noted that the peak performance of the Qualcomm 8 Gen 2 GPU is more than the A16. Namely achieving 25% more and being the most powerful GPU in the industry today.
Apart from that, market changes made by cellphone manufacturers from China seem to have made Apple and Samsung, which have dominated the flagship market so far, to be wary. Because Oppo, Xiaomi and Honor will enliven the competition in the expensive HP market.
“Many companies like Oppo, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Vivo, Realme and others are eager to show off their muscles as they try to secure a place in the market with Apple and Samsung which are increasingly dominating sales worldwide,” said Ben Wood, head of research at CCS. Insight, quoted from CNBC International, Saturday (11/3/2023).
The market shift from the Chinese company comes after shipments in the smartphone market last year hit their lowest level since 2013. But the share of high-end phones costing over US$800 rose from 11% in 2020 to 18% in 2022. Apple and Samsung dominate the market.
However, the odds are so lucrative as Chinese vendors work to increase margins.
Wood said there was a push for a premium market commanding higher selling prices and average margins.
The push for premium phones also coincides with China’s reopening after the country scrapped strict Covid prevention rules in December. This makes it easier for executives, most of whom have been stuck in China since early 2020, to travel abroad.
And it also coincides with a new push from Chinese companies to expand their global reach. In 2022, the market share of Chinese smartphone makers Realme, Oppo and Xiaomi will decline in Europe, while Apple and Samsung will be relatively stable.
Chinese companies hope to change that now that the domestic economy has reopened.
“The easing of lockdowns is a ‘reboot’ for companies that manufacture and export to global customers to meet face-to-face and expand business relationships and opportunities,” said Neil Shah, partner at Counterpoint Research.
“So over the next 12 months we will continue to see a surge in Chinese business as well as tourists flocking outside of China which will enhance their global strategy.”
