iOS 14.2 would have a significant negative impact on the iPhone battery.
The new iPhone 12 would not be the only ones to encounter autonomy concerns. To believe the many testimonials posted on Apple’s forums and on Reddit, the battery problem would not indeed only concern new smartphones from Apple and would actually be linked to the new update of the operating system of the iPhone.
The various testimonies report rapid discharges of the battery and particularly long charging times. For some users, their iPhone loses 50% of the battery in less than 30 minutes, proof that there is a problem with their phone. Other iPhone owners also report seeing a high battery percentage before seeing it drop sharply, and then experiencing inexplicable energy gain after restarting the phone.
The problem would be linked to iOS 14.2 since users have only recently noticed a problem with the autonomy of their smartphone. Moreover, the concern seems above all to concern owners of older models of the iPhone, in particular the first generation iPhone 6S, SE, but also the iPhone 7 and Xs. Some iPads would also be affected by this problem.
Unfortunately, the latest minor update for iOS – version 14.2.1 – doesn’t seem to fix the problem. The latter was primarily aimed at correcting the concerns of SMS and screen responsiveness on the iPhone 12 mini. It’s unclear if the next version of iOS will fix the battery problem. In any case, users will have to be patient.
