iPhone and Apple Watch: Apple officially launches license and ID card in the United States


Apple announced that Arizona is the first state in the United States to offer driver’s license and ID cards in the Maps application on iPhone and Apple Watch.

License and ID come to iPhone in the US

So, starting today, Arizona residents can add their driver’s license or ID to the Maps app and tap their iPhone or Apple Watch to show it seamlessly and securely. at select TSA security checkpoints at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. As a result, there is no longer any need to necessarily provide physical documents.

“We’re excited to bring the first driver’s license and ID card in the Maps app to Arizona today, and to provide Arizonans with an easy, secure, and private way to present their ID card. identity when they travel, with a simple tap of their iPhone or Apple Watch”said Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president for Apple Pay and Apple Cards. “We look forward to working with many other states and the TSA to bring ID support in the Maps app to US users.”.

Coming soon, other states will offer driver’s license and ID card support in the Maps app on iPhone and Apple Watch for their residents. These states are: Colorado, Hawaii, Mississippi, Ohio and the Territory of Puerto Rico. Apple doesn’t mention anything about other states in the US, let alone about other countries.

Driver’s license and ID card in the US Maps app are available on iPhone 8 (or later) running iOS 15.4 (or later) and Apple Watch Series 4 (or later). newer) that runs on watchOS 8.4 (or later).
