IPhone 5c must enter Apple’s list of obsolete products; know if you will suffer

Launched in Brazil in November 2013, the iPhone 5c is expected to enter Apple’s list of obsolete products. The official announcement has not yet been made, but the company has sent a statement to the authorized technical support network, according to a note obtained by the MacRumors website on Friday. In practice, starting from November 1st, those who own a mobile phone will no longer be able to access technical assistance services at authorized shops and partners.

This mobile phone was successful with consumers and became popular for being the first colorful device with a plastic body, being a simpler version of the iPhone 5. At the time, the launch price of the iPhone 5c reached R $ 1,999 with 16 GB of storage. , competitive value compared to the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S, which cost more than R $ 2,399.

At the time, the device came on the market in five different colors: blue, green, pink, yellow and white. In addition, it had a 4-inch LCD screen, an 8MP rear camera and the Apple A6 chip. One of the highlights was the arrival of iOS 7 with a revamped look for the system. The last software update he received was iOS 13.3.3.

However, in 2020, Apple added the iPhone 5c to the list of “vintage” (classic) products, reducing technical support for this model. According to the company, the products considered “classic” are those that have been discontinued for more than five years and for less than seven years. Obsolete products no longer receive any kind of hardware support from Apple because they have not been manufactured for more than 7 years. In short, Apple no longer produces replacement parts for these models.

In addition to the iPhone 5c, the website also stated that the third generation iPad Mini is also included as an outdated product in November.

The National Secretariat of Consumers (Senacon), an agency of the Ministry of Justice, will carry out inspections, in collaboration with Procons, this Friday, at the beginning of the sale of the iPhone 14 in Brazil. Senacon says that if Apple insists on failing to comply with its September 6 ban on the sale of devices without chargers, it could initiate a new administrative process, with a new fine of up to R $ 13 million.

The producer challenged the fine of R $ 12.2 million, applied in September by the agency. The appeal is being examined by the Ministry of Justice.
