iPhone 17 Front Camera Specifications Leaked: Upgrades and Revenue Boost Expected

Although the iPhone 16 won’t be coming until later this year, the rumors can’t wait, as analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the front camera specifications are one of the expected upgrades with the lineup. iPhone 17 Next year, according to 9to5mac.

In a blog post, Kuo said that manufacturer Genius is the primary lens supplier for the iPhone’s front camera, and can expect increased revenue from the higher-spec iPhone 17 front camera module. This will reportedly include a resolution upgrade to 24 megapixels, up from 12 megapixels in current phone models (and the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup).

In addition to the boost in resolution, the quality of the lens layers will also improve, and Kuo says that the iPhone 17 specifications will require a six-element lens design, up from the five-element lens in… iPhone 15 And 16.

The total cost of the front camera component will more than double, according to Kuo’s estimates, and this has a huge upside for the Genius supplier’s bottom line.

Confirming previous rumours, the iPhone 16 will also get a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera sensor, and it is expected to behave similarly to the 48-megapixel main camera sensor in current iPhone models, with computational photography sampling raw information at 48-megapixel resolution to produce a final image. Kuo says Genius is also one of the suppliers for the iPhone 16’s periscope lens, and a 5x 12MP zoom camera will be included in the Pro and Pro Max iPhone 16 models this year, increasing overall demand for components.

Genius is also the exclusive supplier of the flat lenses used in the Apple Vision Pro, and suppliers are currently shipping in bulk ready for the imminent consumer launch, currently expected in February or March. So far, Apple has only promised a launch early in the year.
