iPhone 16 It is rumored that the series will bring a number of new upgrades to improve its specifications. But Apple reportedly will rely on updates iOS 18 as the main selling point of the iPhone 16, not the hardware upgrade.
According to a report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the iPhone 16 series will not bring significant changes in terms of hardware. On the other hand, iOS 18 will be equipped with new features and designs that are expected to tempt potential consumers to buy the iPhone 16.
“So Apple will rely on that software to sell new (iPhone) models to people,” said Gurman, as quoted by Android Authority, Monday (13/11/2023).
Gurman said Apple internally calls iOS 18 an ambitious and exciting project. This new operating system will also bring a number of improvements to performance and security.
Gurman did not provide specific information about features iOS 18 which Apple is working on. He only said that iOS 18 would come with bigger updates than the previous iOS version.
One of the features Gurman mentioned was generative artificial intelligence (AI), but he did not provide detailed information. Samsung recently announced a number of AI features that will be present on the Galaxy S24, such as translating calls, summarizing documents, and creating images. It is possible that the iPhone 16 series will be equipped with similar capabilities.
Apple itself recently temporarily stopped development of iOS 18 and other operating systems for a week so it could focus on fixing bugs in the initial phase.
Gurman said this suspension will likely not affect the release of iOS 18 next year. But worst case scenario, Apple will have less time to fix last-minute bugs before release.
Apart from iOS 18, iPhone 16 series is also rumored to be coming with upgrades in the form of a new shortcut button to accompany the Action Button, a smaller Dynamic Island notch, and a periscope camera for the iPhone 16 Pro.
