iPhone 16 series will be launched this year, and rumors about this potential new Apple cellphone continue to circulate. One of them is a rumor that claims iPhone 16 Pro You will get a storage upgrade of up to 2TB.
This news came from the South Korean news aggregator account ‘yeux1122’ in a post on the Naver blog. He said the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be available with a 2TB internal memory option.
Currently the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have the highest storage variant up to 1TB. If this rumor is accurate, then the storage capacity on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be doubled.
In his post, yeux1122 claims Apple will use Quad-Level Cell (QLC) NAND memory for models with larger storage. This memory will replace the Triple-Level CELL (TLC) NAND that iPhones currently use.
QLC NAND memory has a higher density, allowing Apple to fit more storage in a smaller area. This memory is also more affordable compared to TLC memory, as quoted from MacRumors, Monday (22/1/2024).
But on the other hand, QLC memory has lower read and write speeds. But this can be circumvented when higher speeds are needed, for example by treating QLC cells as TLC cells.
This is not the first time yeux1122 has predicted that the iPhone will get a storage upgrade of up to 2TB. Last year they also spread similar rumors about the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max which of course did not come true.
But it is not impossible that Apple will introduce 2TB storage in the iPhone 16 Pro series. Especially after releasing ProRes video support whose size can reach 6GB for 4k30fps video.
Apart from 2TB storage, iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will also reportedly be equipped with a Capture button for taking videos. According to The Information’s report, this button will be introduced to make the iPhone camera the main alternative for taking horizontal videos.
The Information says the Capture button will use a mechanical design like a traditional button, but with extra capacity features that make it responsive to touch and pressure. Users will be able to swipe left and right to control the camera zoom or press a button to focus on the subject.
